Stretching from the Gulf of Venice in the north to the Capo d'Otranto in the south, Italy’s Adriatic coastline is a beautiful but largely unknown destination to many except its locals. Based near the sovereign state of San Marino, this tour takes you over the hills of Emilia Romagna and down to the warm waters of the Adriatic Sea. It’s a corner of Italy known as Pantani country, the playground where the Italian cyclist grew up and learnt his trade. Take on the legendary Nove Colli route – a challenging ride that straddles nine hills and is said to have been the first sportive in Italy – and visit the impressive crag-top fortress sitting above the town of San Leo. As ever, enjoy traditional Italian dishes with fresh seafood and excellent local wines.
Day 1: Arrive on the Adriatic Coast
We recommend a morning flight. After arriving you will be met and transferred to your chosen hotel either on the coast, or in the hills, depending on your preferences. You will have time to build your bike (or pick up your hire bike) and grab some lunch. In the afternoon you will have time for a warm-up ride to San Marino.
Day 2: Novi Coli Route
Today you can take on the legendary route of the Novi Coli. The Novi Coli was the first ever Sportive, and translated means 9 hills. You can either take on the 205km route with 3840m of climbing or the shorter but equally as fun, 130km, 1871m route.
Day 3: Ride to San Leo
Today's ride is great. You get to really explore the tiny country lanes of this area, and there is ample opportunity for coffee stops in the many walled towns and villages that you pass. You will also ride the route of the 2019 Giro d'Italia TT course on your way to San Marino.
Day 4: Departure day
There is time for one final cafe run down the coast before we transfer you back to the airport. We recommend you get an afternoon or evening flight. If you want to extend this trip, this is possible.
