ITINERARY

Day 1 Life is a Circus

We meet you at the airport and after checking in at the hotel we head out for our welcome dinner introducing you to Khmer cuisine. After we enjoy the local specialties we are in for a treat, a circus show. Phrae is a nonprofit school for the arts and the students use their amazing acrobatic skills to act out Cambodian folklore. This show is more akin to Cirque de Soleil and is a must see in Siem Reap. **_Optional: If you arrive early, we can arrange for a family of 4 or more to have a workshop and learn from the stars before dinner. Please contact us for more information._**

Day 2 Tomb Rider and Tasty Treats

After our fun night, today we prepare our bikes for our journey through the jungles of Angkor. We cycle from temple to temple starting with Ta Prohm, famous from the film Tomb Raider, and deliberately left by French conservationists in the same condition as it was discovered; overgrown by strangler fig and silk-cotton trees, giving it a mystical appeal. We then carry on through the jungle and towards a beautiful reservoir and stop at Banteay Kdei, which also hasn't been restored lets you experience what it might have looked like in the 12th century. We head back to town for lunch at Marum, a local social program that helps train Cambodians in hospitality. After lunch we'll meet our language tutor who will give us an introduction in Khmer and then we take a tuk-tuk to the local market to try out our new words. We then head out of town to Phnom Bok temple, which sits atop of 200 m hill with memorable views over the countryside. After a short trek through the jungle we head back to Siem Reap to finish our day with dinner near the atmospheric night market.

Day 3 Stone Smiles and Dirty Hands

After breakfast we hop back on the bikes and head towards the ancient city of Angkor Thom where we’ll find the enigmatic temple of Bayon, known for its many smiling faces. We then challenge ourselves to clamber to the top of the steep steps of Baphuon and finish with a visit to the iconic Angkor Wat. Symbolizing Mount Meru, the home of the gods, the temple is adorned with more than 2,000 Apsara dancers. Care to count them? As the sun reaches its zenith, we’ll take a short rest and lunch. We'll switch gears this afternoon and get our hands dirty as we learn local pottery techniques and try them out ourselves. Once back at the hotel there is time to enjoy the swimming pool before we head out for a BBQ dinner.

Day 4 Paddle and Pedal

After breakfast we head to the placid Tonlé Sap lake to kayak through submerged forests and floating villages. Seeing how people adapt to living on the water will be inspiring. We paddle to the Meychrey Floating Village, where we’ll enjoy lunch at a stilted home perched in the lake. Then it’s back to solid ground and one more set of temples known as the Roulous Group. Thought to be some of the earliest permanent structures built by the Khmers we'll use our bikes to cycle between the three main temples. Our last dinner will be at one of Siem Reap's oldest restaurants where we recommend the delicately spiced amok.
